About the Race
Run Brave for a Cure 5K
Every Step Tells a Story. Every Mile Brings Hope.
The Run Brave for a Cure 5K is the signature fundraising event of the Ishan Gala Foundation, bringing our community together to honor loved ones, celebrate survivors, and support families navigating the cancer journey. What began in 2009 as Splash for a Cure has grown into a cherished community tradition. Originally an evening pool celebration, the event reflected one of Ishan's greatest joys, the water. Since becoming a 5K in 2015, this annual gathering has continued to unite families, friends, and supporters through movement, remembrance, and hope.
Today, we're proud to begin a new chapter as the Run Brave for a Cure 5K.
While our name has evolved, our purpose remains the same: to honor Ishan's legacy by creating a community where no family faces cancer alone. Together, we celebrate the strength of survivors, remember those who will always hold a place in our hearts, and stand beside those who are courageously fighting today. Held each year near Ishan's birthday on August 28, Run Brave is more than a race, it's a celebration of resilience, compassion, and community.
Join us at Darden Towe Park for a beautiful run or walk along the scenic Rivanna River Trail. Whether you're chasing a personal record, walking in honor of someone you love, or simply showing your support, every participant helps make a difference.
After the race, stay for a morning of family-friendly fun featuring:
-
Awards Ceremony
-
Inspiring remarks from the Ishan Gala Foundation
-
Stories from IGF families
-
Community partners and vendors
-
Games and activities for all ages
Run with Purpose. Walk with Hope. Honor with Love.
Together, we're building a future filled with courage, connection, and hope one step at a time.
We can't wait to welcome you to the Run Brave for a Cure 5K!
